For Pensioner members of The Abbott Laboratories
Pension Fund (1966) Change membership type

October is Free Wills Month. This is your opportunity to write or update your Will for free, if you or your partner are aged 55 or over.

How it works

Free Wills Month partners with solicitors across the UK to offer this valuable service. To make the most of their offer:

  • Visit the Free Wills Month website and register your interest.
  • They will get in touch with you in October when the campaign begins.
  • If you qualify to use the service, you’ll be able to find a participating solicitor near you and book your appointment.
  • At the appointment, you will be able to create or update a Will for free, with the option to leave a charitable donation.

Why you need a Will

Free Wills Month is an excellent chance to gain peace of mind and protect your family’s future. But it’s also a reminder of why it’s important to think about having a Will.

It’s not just about death

A Will helps to make the process of managing your estate simpler after you die. But it can also help in circumstances such as ill-health or as part of buying a house. Doing it for free before you might need to get one at shorter notice could help further down the line.

Clear communication

We all hope that the people included in your Will are happy with the decisions you make. But sometimes they can lead to disagreements. By getting ahead and talking with your loved ones about what you might leave behind, you can set people’s expectations and make a really difficult time slightly more manageable.

Where the Abbott Pension Fund comes in

Your Abbott pension does not need to be included in your Will. When you die as a member of the Fund, the Trustees will pay benefits to your beneficiaries in line with the Fund Rules. It’s important that you complete an Expression of Wishes form so that the Trustees can take your wishes into account when making their decision.

Take time to update your Expression of Wishes form.
